Torque Tool - HSE Audible Warning

The Triton Torque Tool has a built in HSE feature to prevent unscrewing of a valve containing pressure.    The Torque Tool is installed by turning the interior Jacking bolt with a 3/8" hex head wrench.   As the Jacking bolt is turned clockwise the torque tool lowers down over the valve. 

 

As the Jacking bolt is being screwed in the bottom of the bolt contacts the top of the bias piston  and "cracks" the valve open.  If the valve contains pressure the gas will pass through the valve and exit out of the 6 audible warning ports around the Torque Tool.   At 3,000 psi the audible warning is approximately 97dB.

The technician can either continue screwing down the Jacking bolt to fully open the valve to dump the entire bottle or reverse the Jacking bolt allowing the valve to re-seat and re-seal.   

In order to defeat the HSE feature and unscrew a valve containing pressure a technician would have to fully engage the Torque Tool opening the valve wide open resulting in a high dB level and high pressure gas exiting 360 degrees as well as out the top of the Torque Tool.   The hex head wrench would then have to be removed and a 1/2" square drive would need to be installed to apply unscrewing torque.

This is an actual video of the audible alarm feature doing its job.  We were shooting various videos for the website and were about to shoot a video showing the removal of a valve using the Triton Torque Tool.  Video was rolling to capture removal sequence 

 

Bottle pressure was very low at the time this video was shot.  The Audible Warning works exactly as intended in all pressure ranges.

This is a video of the start of a full bottle dump using the Triton Torque Tool.  As the Torque Tool is being installed by turning the hex head the Audible Warning feature opens the valve prior to Torque Pin engagement. 

 

Since we were  dumping the bottle  we opened the valve fully which engages torque pins.  However, to remove the valve it still requires the hex head wrench to be removed and a 1/2" square drive to be inserted against rushing air and the noise of the Audible Alarm
